About the role
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat neurosurgery patients independently with faculty guidance
- Assist neurosurgeons in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients
- Provide preoperative teaching and manage preoperative and postoperative care in outpatient settings
- Perform detailed neurologic examinations and obtain patient histories
- Formulate treatment plans and order appropriate radiographic, laboratory, and diagnostic studies
- Manage electronic health record messages, patient calls, and care coordination tasks
- Provide clinical leadership in practice, staff development, and research
- Participate in student, trainee, and staff education and quality improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program (ARC-PA or predecessor)
- NCCPA certification
- Current Michigan state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License and current DEA registration
- AHA approved BLS and PALS certification
- Two years of experience working in pediatric neurosurgery as an Advanced Practice Professional
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of pediatric or neurosurgery APP experience
- Extensive experience in the evaluation and care of preoperative and postoperative neurosurgical patients
- Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating with parents and caregivers in stressful situations
- Ability to work with minimal supervision within a collaborative multidisciplinary team
