About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead evaluation and down-selection of high-temperature alloys, stainless steels, ceramics, coatings, and composites
- Define material requirements based on thermal, mechanical, oxidation, and fatigue loads
- Plan and execute material tests including tensile, creep, fatigue, and thermal cycling
- Use metallography, SEM/EDS, and other microstructural methods to understand material behavior
- Assess metal powders and printability for additive manufacturing systems
- Investigate component or material failures using microstructural analysis and fracture mechanics
- Collaborate with design, thermal, and mechanical teams to create data-driven material strategies
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and test summaries
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science
- 5+ years of experience with metals and materials characterization
- Strong background in fatigue, creep, oxidation, and thermal-mechanical degradation
- Hands-on experience with mechanical testing and failure analysis
- Familiarity with high-temperature alloys and surface treatments
- Ability to travel domestically approximately 30% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting additive manufacturing materials or metal powder evaluation
