Advanced Materials Science Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead evaluation and down-selection of high-temperature alloys, stainless steels, ceramics, coatings, and composites
• Define material requirements based on thermal, mechanical, oxidation, and fatigue loads
• Plan and execute material tests including tensile, creep, fatigue, and thermal cycling
• Use metallography, SEM/EDS, and other microstructural methods to understand material behavior
• Assess metal powders and printability for additive manufacturing systems
• Investigate component or material failures using microstructural analysis and fracture mechanics
• Collaborate with design, thermal, and mechanical teams to create data-driven material strategies
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and test summaries

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science
• 5+ years of experience with metals and materials characterization
• Strong background in fatigue, creep, oxidation, and thermal-mechanical degradation
• Hands-on experience with mechanical testing and failure analysis
• Familiarity with high-temperature alloys and surface treatments
• Ability to travel domestically approximately 30% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting additive manufacturing materials or metal powder evaluation
