About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive surgical care for adult cardiac surgery, focusing on advanced heart failure therapies including LVAD implantation, tMCS, and heart transplantation.
- Participate in the advanced heart failure therapies program, including patient selection, perioperative management, and longitudinal follow-up.
- Support the clinical growth, quality, and operational readiness of the developing heart transplant program in collaboration with leadership.
- Participate in on-call and donor call responsibilities as required by program needs.
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and Advanced Practice Providers.
- Engage in clinical, translational, or outcomes-based research related to advanced heart failure, MCS, cardiogenic shock, or transplantation.
Requirements
- M.D., D.O., or international medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited or internationally recognized cardiothoracic surgery training program.
- Board certified or board eligible in Thoracic Surgery.
- Clinical experience with advanced heart failure therapies, including durable LVADs and temporary MCS.
- Minimum of one year of experience as an assistant or primary transplant surgeon within the last 5 years.
- Valid CA Medical License (or eligibility to obtain).
- Valid DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain).
