About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and process advanced polymer composites and investigate optical properties as a function of chemistry, structure, and processing conditions
- Synthesize and tailor surface functionality of optical additives at-scale for integration into polymer composite materials
- Utilize spectroscopy and imaging systems to characterize UV, visible, infrared (IR), and radio-frequency (RF) properties
- Develop and use Python scripts to automate experiments and analyze test data efficiently
Requirements
- PhD in a STEM-related field (Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline)
- 3+ years of relevant research experience (educational experience may be considered)
- Experience processing and characterizing polymeric materials
- Experience with chemical synthesis of advanced micro/nano particles and tailored surface functionalization
- Proficiency with Python for developing scripts and GUIs to automate experiments and result analysis
- Experience with material characterization using spectroscopy (UV, visible, IR, and RF)
- Active Secret Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Research experience involving polymer structure-property relationships
- Experience with scalable polymer composite processing and surface patterning
- Familiarity with color measurements and analysis using CIELAB/Lab parameters
- Experience with experiment automation
