Adult Community Speech and Language Therapist

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage adults with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders (including dysphagia)
• Deliver evidence-based interventions within community settings such as care homes and service users’ own homes
• Manage a varied caseload independently, prioritising clinical need effectively
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, carers, and family members
• Provide training and guidance to carers and support staff on communication strategies and safe swallowing practices
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards

Requirements

• Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
• HCPC registration and membership (or eligibility)
• Membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
• Proven experience working with adults in a community setting
• Dysphagia training and demonstrated competency in managing swallowing disorders
• Strong clinical reasoning skills and ability to work independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
