About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated operational and administrative support to a Surgeon within the Hand Clinic at the Schroeder Arthritis Institute.
- Manage the Surgeon’s complex schedule, resolving conflicts and optimizing time management across clinical and academic portfolios.
- Act as the primary liaison and professional gatekeeper for the Surgeon, triaging urgent inquiries and managing communications.
- Process incoming referrals, schedule/reschedule patient appointments, and handle patient inquiries and reminders.
- Complete administrative tasks including patient registration in the EPIC EMR system and data reporting.
- Document patient consults and ensure the timely transfer of notes back to referring clinicians.
- Provide backup and cross-coverage support for the operational administrative team within the Hand Clinic.
Requirements
- Completion of Secondary School or recognized equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized post-secondary medical administration certificate or equivalent.
- Two years of related administrative support experience.
- Required experience working with EPIC EMR for managing referrals and appointment scheduling.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a healthcare environment.
- Experience with financial processes and medical billing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office environments.
- Fluency in a second language (e.g., French).
