About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated operational and administrative support to a Surgeon within the Hand Clinic at the Schroeder Arthritis Institute.
  • Manage the Surgeon’s complex schedule, resolving conflicts and optimizing time management across clinical and academic portfolios.
  • Act as the primary liaison and professional gatekeeper for the Surgeon, triaging urgent inquiries and managing communications.
  • Process incoming referrals, schedule/reschedule patient appointments, and handle patient inquiries and reminders.
  • Complete administrative tasks including patient registration in the EPIC EMR system and data reporting.
  • Document patient consults and ensure the timely transfer of notes back to referring clinicians.
  • Provide backup and cross-coverage support for the operational administrative team within the Hand Clinic.

Requirements

  • Completion of Secondary School or recognized equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary medical administration certificate or equivalent.
  • Two years of related administrative support experience.
  • Required experience working with EPIC EMR for managing referrals and appointment scheduling.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience with financial processes and medical billing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office environments.
  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., French).
