About the role
Responsibilities
- Teach music courses, develop curriculum, and advise students.
- Oversee and direct all band and choir administrative tasks, including budget management, scholarship awards, and recruitment efforts.
- Direct and conduct various ensembles, including the Concert Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, and University Choir.
- Establish participation policies and formulate operation manuals for students and staff.
- Coordinate with auxiliary personnel, including dance and flag coordinators.
- Prepare music and field shows, including drumline arrangements.
- Schedule all performances and manage necessary travel paperwork in accordance with university policies.
- Maintain and inventory all musical equipment, instruments, uniforms, and supplies.
- Supervise the conduct and behavior of all ensemble members and enforce university policies.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Music (Performance, Conducting, Jazz Studies, etc.) or a Master's degree in Education with graduate-level music credits.
- Minimum of five years of experience as a band or choir director at the high school or collegiate level.
- Proven experience in instrumental ensemble conducting and choir conducting.
- Experience directing university bands and designing marching band drills.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching practices for diverse musical backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and administration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in Music.
- Experience teaching applied instrumental lessons at the collegiate level.
- Ability to provide links to prior band recordings within the application.
