About the role

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach well-organized, in-person Sociology classes in accordance with student learning outcomes.
  • Create and distribute syllabi via the University’s Learning Management Software (Brightspace).
  • Manage student academic progress by posting assignment grades in Brightspace.
  • Hold two hours of office hours per week (available in a mix of in-person and online formats).
  • Maintain timely correspondence with students, faculty, and staff using University email.
  • Submit roster reconciliations, mid-term grades, and final grades by established deadlines.
  • File retention alerts when student concerns arise and comply with all faculty duties outlined in the Faculty Handbook.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Sociology.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in Sociology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Brightspace or a similar Learning Management System (LMS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching specific course topics such as Introduction to Sociology, Gender, Social Justice, or Family & Society.
  • Ability to teach in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
