Adjunct Faculty, Music Business (History of the Recording Industry)

Responsibilities

• Teach an undergraduate course focused on the history of the recording industry, from the invention of the phonograph to contemporary digital and emerging technologies
• Introduce students to U.S. copyright law as it applies to musical compositions and sound recordings
• Address topics such as copyright ownership, duration, infringement, reversion rights, and evolving legal frameworks
• Engage students in analysis of current music industry issues, including artificial intelligence and recent copyright cases
• Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, and assessments aligned with departmental and university standards
• Support efforts to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required
• Professional experience working in the music industry
• Expertise in music publishing and music copyright
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment
