Acute Inpatient Patient Care Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy for assigned patients in an acute inpatient setting under the supervision of an RN.
• Set up and prime equipment for renal replacement therapies, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
• Monitor patient well-being, evaluate vascular access for patency, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights.
• Perform vascular access cannulation and calculate dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and treatment times.
• Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters on treatment sheets.
• Collect and label specimens for laboratory delivery according to facility policy.
• Monitor patient response to therapy and report any unusual findings or changes in status to the supervising RN.
• Assist with the discontinuation of treatment, including obtaining hemostasis and applying appropriate dressings.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid PCT national certification or state-specific certification as defined by CMS.
• 1-2 years of related experience in a clinical or dialysis setting.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including standing for prolonged periods, bending, and assisting with the movement of patients.
