Activity Assistant

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and implementation of an innovative, seven-day-a-week activity program.
• Lead and implement one-on-one, small group, and large group activities according to the programming schedule.
• Support, encourage, and direct independent activity pursuits for residents.
• Demonstrate knowledge of residents regarding their background, physical abilities, interests, and cognitive capacity.
• Encourage and motivate residents to participate in community programming and activities.
• Communicate any changes in resident condition or behavior patterns to the Harbor Care Director.
• Ensure resident safety by staying with groups at all times during excursions.

Requirements

• High school diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of aging and disability issues.
• Training and knowledge in recreational activities.
• Training and knowledge regarding Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community.
• Strong multitasking skills with the ability to work well under pressure and maintain a positive attitude.
