Accuracy Checking Dispenser

Responsibilities

• Carry out final accuracy checks on dispensed medicines to ensure products match prescriptions and documentation
• Verify patient details, medicine strength, formulation, quantity, and directions
• Ensure medicines are assembled in accordance with legal requirements, SOPs, and company processes
• Identify and escalate discrepancies, near misses, and potential dispensing errors
• Maintain clear, accurate, and auditable records of all completed checks
• Support the safe handling of controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines, and high-risk medications
• Perform expiry date checks, batch number verification, and packaging integrity checks
• Collaborate with dispensers and pharmacists to resolve queries while maintaining checking independence
• Contribute to quality assurance initiatives and process improvements
• Mentor colleagues to embed a culture of accountability and attention to detail

Requirements

• Accredited Accuracy Checking Dispenser (ACD) qualification
• Significant experience in a pharmacy environment conducting final accuracy checks
• Detailed understanding of the dispensing process and critical control points
• Strong knowledge of pharmacy legislation, SOPs, and patient safety principles
• Ability to work independently and make sound professional judgements
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain concentration at pace
• Confidence to challenge discrepancies and halt supply processes for safety
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
