Accountant

Responsibilities

• Execute monthly and quarterly retail accounting close procedures and report financial results.
• Reconcile retail balance sheet accounts and daily/monthly retail tender settlements (Credit/Debit, PayPal, Gift Cards, etc.).
• Analyze balance sheet and expense accounts and prepare necessary journal entry adjustments.
• Partner with business stakeholders to track actual spending against budget and forecast, providing variance commentary.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly expense analyses for retail stores and report on key performance indicators.
• Manage retail internal controls and assist with internal and external audit requests.
• Complete annual Canadian recycling reporting and census filings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• High level of Excel skills and strong financial modeling capabilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies and identify root causes.
• Excellent communication skills, including written, presentation, and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines and varying levels of ambiguity.
• High attention to detail regarding accuracy and timeliness.

Preferred Qualifications

• 0-2 years of professional accounting experience.
• Experience using AI tools (e.g., large language models or automation platforms) to streamline finance workflows.
