Academic Tutor for Literacy

Responsibilities

• Deliver targeted programmes of study to small groups of students (typically 1-3) to improve literacy skills
• Ensure students identified for intervention have every opportunity to meet their academic targets
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and complete relevant marking and feedback
• Liaise with parents regarding student attendance, progress, and attitude
• Use effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a purposeful learning environment
• Support identified students during tutor group time and assist them in engaging with lesson objectives
• Highlight individual learning needs to teachers to ensure consistent support across the curriculum

Requirements

• A Level or undergraduate degree in English, Maths, or Science (or equivalent)
• Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
• Experience working directly with young people in an education or training environment
• Knowledge of child development, learning processes, and common barriers to learning
• Understanding of strategies for working with young people with challenging behaviours
• Ability to plan effective actions for students at risk of underachieving
