About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop, provide, and assess academic advising services to support the success and retention of approximately 14,000 students.
- Assess academic records to help students identify specializations aligned with personal and career goals.
- Coach students regarding post-graduation options, including careers and graduate studies.
- Interpret and apply University and Faculty policies, including adjudicating requests for academic concessions and appeals.
- Identify at-risk students and connect them with appropriate university resources and supports.
- Manage projects related to student development, such as designing workshops, technical resources, or outreach programs.
- Support recruitment and retention efforts through presentations and relationship building with prospective students and families.
- Supervise support staff, peer advisors, and student workers.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- 4-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in post-secondary advising or counseling.
- Valid BC Driver's License.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Arts (e.g., BA, BFA, BSW).
- Previous experience within the UBC system.
- Knowledge of SIS/SISC.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under pressure.
- Fluency in Mandarin or other South East Asian languages.
