Academic Advisor

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive academic advising to a cohort of undergraduate students in the Whitman School of Management, including program planning, major/minor selection, and course scheduling.
• Support students through complex academic and personal issues, including those on academic probation, and provide appropriate referrals.
• Conduct one-on-one and group advising sessions to ensure timely degree completion and student retention.
• Oversee administrative tasks such as semester degree checks, rising senior audits, degree certifications, and student form processing.
• Interpret and communicate Syracuse University and Whitman School academic policies and procedures to students, parents, faculty, and staff.
• Utilize campus technology platforms, including PeopleSoft and DegreeWorks, to track academic progress and communicate student success to faculty.
• Promote extracurricular involvement and engagement opportunities for students.

Requirements

• 2+ years of college-level academic advising experience.
• Proficiency in PeopleSoft and DegreeWorks.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and handle stressful situations with a professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
• Experience working within a large undergraduate student advising office.
• Proactive problem-solving skills and a strong customer-orientation.
