Academic Advisor

Responsibilities

• Provide academic advising to students regarding course selection, degree requirements, and academic progress to support graduation.
• Conduct individual advising sessions to help students identify and clarify academic, career, and life goals.
• Communicate academic policies, procedures, and transfer credit requirements to students, parents, and faculty while upholding FERPA standards.
• Monitor student academic standing, provide guidance to students on probation, and make dismissal recommendations when necessary.
• Maintain accurate student records, including meeting notes, degree progress, and correspondence.
• Present academic workshops on topics such as goal setting, transfer transitions, and graduate school preparation.
• Collaborate with academic departments, program directors, and administrative staff to ensure consistent communication of program requirements.
• Assist with departmental initiatives including orientation, academic probation advising, and early academic alerts.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field.
• 1-2 years of related experience in higher education or academic advising.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, internet, and email applications.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and faculty.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, including some evening and weekend hours.

• Experience working within a Jesuit or Catholic higher education environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, and values-based leadership.
• Ability to provide empathic, student-centered, and holistic advising.
