About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop, provide, and evaluate academic advising services, programs, and projects to support the success and retention of Indigenous students in the Faculty of Arts.
  • Assist students with program planning, course selection, and navigating University and Faculty policies.
  • Evaluate academic performance, adjudicate graduation eligibility, and process academic concessions.
  • Lead recruitment and outreach initiatives to support the University Indigenous Strategic Plan.
  • Create and disseminate print and electronic promotional materials related to Faculty of Arts programs.
  • Collaborate with campus units and the Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies on student success initiatives.
  • Supervise student staff, including Peer Advisors and Work-Study students.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • 4-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities or youth.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and willingness to travel outside UBC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA, BFA, BMUS, BSW, or a related field.
  • Experience in post-secondary academic advising, counseling, or administration.
  • Knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS/SISC).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a large, complex institution.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Indigenous ancestry.
  • Strong ability to analyze data, interpret complex policies, and provide informed recommendations.
