Academic Advisor

Responsibilities

• Help students develop realistic educational plans through semester and summer schedule planning to ensure timely graduation.
• Proactively contact and meet with students regularly to review academic progress, grades, and milestones.
• Consult with faculty colleagues to maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum, degree plans, and institutional policies.
• Support incoming students during orientation and throughout their first academic year to assist with university adjustment.
• Manage educational transactions including registration, course drops/adds, withdrawals, and changes of major.
• Monitor student success by following up on potential barriers such as academic holds, poor grades, or attendance issues.
• Maintain detailed advising portfolios, including transcripts, grade reports, and advising agreements.
• Connect students to essential campus resources such as tutoring, career development, and counseling services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree is required.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and project management.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• High level of professionalism and a goal-oriented mindset.
• Ability to maintain a concerned and caring attitude toward advisees.
• Must be a professing Christian willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of Abilene Christian University.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree.
• Minimum of three years of experience in higher education.
• Proficiency with academic software such as Banner, Degree Works, or Slate.
