Environmental Engineer

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure implementation of environmental management plans (EMP) and monitoring programs in line with local laws, Etihad Rail standards, and international best practices.
• Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIA); ensure mitigation measures are applied effectively and documented per IFC Performance Standards and ESIA protocols.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities (MOCCAE, EAD) for environmental approvals, permits, audits, and sustainability disclosures.
• Perform site inspections, audits, and risk assessments for environmental compliance (energy efficiency, biodiversity, climate risk).
• Monitor air, water, soil, and noise pollution levels at project sites; recommend corrective actions aligned with national limits and global sustainability goals (UN SDGs 6, 11, 13, 15).
• Support carbon footprint assessments and promote low-carbon design, procurement, and construction methodologies in coordination with engineering teams.
• Integrate sustainability indicators such as waste minimization, resource conservation, and circular economy principles into project execution.
• Contribute to sustainability reporting (GRI Standards, Scope 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions).
• Prepare detailed reports and documentation for stakeholders, including ESG alignment.
• Lead or support environmental awareness and sustainability training for project staff.
• Incorporate innovative solutions from global/regional trends in sustainable infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science (with sustainability focus), Sustainability & Environmental Management, Civil Engineering (Environmental/Sustainable Infrastructure focus), or Environmental Policy/Planning.
• 5–8 years’ environmental engineering experience, including at least 2 years on Etihad Rail or similar large-scale UAE infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of UAE environmental regulations, permitting, and agencies.
• Experience with IFC, ISO 14001, GRI, and ESIA frameworks.
• Familiarity with UN SDGs, GHG Protocol, and adaptation/resilience strategies.
• Excellent reporting, communication, and coordination skills.
• Must be currently based in the UAE.
• Valid UAE Driving License (mandatory).
• Strong English; Arabic language is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or postgraduate certification in Sustainability or Climate Policy.
• Experience using environmental data management or sustainability performance tracking tools.
