Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct survey parties to determine precise locations and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapping, land division, titles, and mining purposes.
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and records to obtain necessary data.
  • Read and interpret contract documents, detailed drawings, specifications, and safety measures.
  • Perform survey work under the guidance of the Resident Engineer.
  • Develop new data from photogrammetric records and establish control points in the field.
  • Record all measurements, rod readings, and calculations accurately in field books.
  • Verify accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations.
  • Coordinate with contractor’s surveyors on work priorities and schedules.
  • Check work through traverse closures and bench circuits.
  • Report discrepancies or technical issues to team leader.
  • Perform joint measurements of completed work or for payment.
  • Check work conformance to line and grade as per project plans, in coordination with inspectors.
  • Perform regular checks of contractor's setting out for accurate execution.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment regularly.
  • Keep accurate records, notes, and sketches describing and certifying work performed.
  • Coordinate findings with engineering, architectural staff, clients, and related parties.
  • Calculate heights, depths, property lines, and terrain characteristics.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of survey data, charts, maps, and documents.
  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal survey descriptions.
  • Plan and conduct ground surveys for baselines, elevations, and geodetic measurements.
  • Enforce and monitor safety, quality controls, and procedures on site.
  • Monitor health and safety of construction work and report violations.
